THE TRUE GLOW OF VFD
Why VFD displays may look fluorescent green in person, but cyan or blue-green in photos.
Under normal viewing conditions, a VFD display usually appears with a distinctive fluorescent green glow. This color comes from the display technology itself, and it is one of the key visual differences between VFD, LED, and LCD displays.
In photos, the VFD glow may sometimes appear closer to cyan or blue-green. This is usually caused by ambient lighting, light pollution, camera white balance, exposure settings, or post-processing. It does not mean the display itself has changed color.
If you want to capture a more atmospheric image of your VFD clock, try shooting in a darker environment and adjusting the shutter speed. A slower shutter speed may capture subtle changes from the VFD’s scanning and refresh pattern, creating a visual effect similar to flowing current, fluorescent trails, or the glow of vintage electronic equipment.
